For years I remember my dad setting off our own small fireworks on July 4th. Personal fireworks are, I believe, illegal in New Jersey, so he bought them from across the border. A few times the police drove by and gave us a “slap on the wrist.” If that doesn’t scream white privilege, I don’t know what does.
